Sure, you can make it a day trip, but more time in the woods means more memories created. Ride the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway
If you’ve taken a ride already, you know just how magical it is. We recommend the 4-hour excursion aboard an open-air car for the best views. The layover in McCaysville leaves time for lunch at Burra Burra, crafting a basket at Pic ‘N Vine, and taking a family picture on the “blue line” while standing in two states at once.

Get wet at The Ocoee Whitewater Center
See the canoe slalom venue for the 1996 Summer Olympics – the only in-river course ever used in the Olympics for slalom. While you’re there, go for a hike on the Old Copper Road Trail or dip your toes in the water. Come back in the summer for rafting!

Ride horses through the forest
One of our favorite family activities in the area is horseback riding. There are several options in the area, like Blue Ridge Mountain Trail Rides for pony rides for the littlest of kiddos or Appalachian Trail Rides for a full Cowboy/Cowgirl Dinner Ride. Not sure about riding a horse? Step back in time and enjoy a western style carriage ride in the country in an authentic horse drawn 1800’s carriage with Daffodil Hill Farm & Carriage.

Catch a birds-eye view with Blue Ridge Helicopter Tours
Blue Ridge never looked so good! Enjoy Lake Blue Ridge like you’ve never seen her, or take a longer helicopter tour over Mercier, Downtown or the entire Copper Basin-Toccoa River area.

Show your colors with Blue Ridge Paintball
Imagine 2+ acres of field, eight digitized game modes, and loads of fun! Capture the Flag, VIP, Domination and more – all interactive on the field. Kids must be 10+.

Take a Waterfall Hike on the Appalachian Trail
Our family favorites? Long Creek Falls in Blue Ridge and Jacks River Falls not too far away. Long Creek Falls are only a 1.1-mile hike to the 50ft waterfall ideal for cooling off. Click the link for a great map of more waterfalls in the area.

Hike through the Woods
If you’re looking for more outdoor options, be sure to enjoy a hike to Swinging Bridge (and camping here is one of our all-time favorites!) You can also hike to Springer Mountain – the start of the Appalachian Trail - or any number of trails through the Aska Adventure Area.

Go for the gold at Aska Mining Company
Your youngest Spring Breakers will love easy gem mining and tubing here. After all that play, grab lunch at Iron Bridge Café right onsite. Hamburgers, wraps and so much more – including one of Blue Ridge’s #1 breakfast menus.

You’ve got one hour to solve the puzzle and escape the room! Kids will love the Black Beard’s Brig room full of pirate mayhem, or the Wizard School of Magic room where you’ll have to challenge the Dark Lord!

Grab your socks and some change for the juke box, it’s time to bowl! It’s a non-smoking venue, and bumper rails are available.

Spring is made for drive-in movies! Swan Drive-In is the best place in Georgia to introduce your kids to a new movie from the comfort of the back seat. Concessions available!

Visit the Trout Art Kids Trail
Click thru to find a map of Blue Ridge’s trout statues. Print it off, find the trout and fill in the blanks with the fish’s name. Once you’re done, bring it to the Visitor Center for a special prize.

Catch and release at The Lilly Pad Village
Bring the kids for several outdoor adventures, all in one location. Try fishing in the small pond, mini golf, or gem mining.
