Fall Fishing with Cohutta Fishing Company
Fall is around the corner. No season brings us more excitement to be in the North Georgia Mountains and Blue Ridge – Autumn Colors, cooler weather, and more importantly, Trout fishing.
While we all have the Summer Blues right now with the hottest part of the year upon us, fall is around the corner. No season brings us more excitement to be in the North Georgia Mountains and Blue Ridge – Autumn Colors, cooler weather, and more importantly, Trout fishing.
Why is Fannin County the Trout Capital of Georgia and why do we get so excited about fall fishing? With over 550 miles of streams and 13 bodies of designated trout water, the Blue Ridge area is known as one of the top five destinations in the southeast for trout fishing. As the summer wanes, fall temperatures and colors show themselves. Trout are a cold water fish, and unlike a western summer where fishing is at its peak during the summer months, our mild southern fall, winter and spring seasons give us 8 months of fantastic Trout fishing kicking off in October. We have the perfect conditions for both trout and anglers to enjoy beautiful foliage while fly fishing in the mountains.
There’s something magical about gearing up and wading a laurel-covered mountain stream and seeing your breath in the cool air while fly fishing. It truly allows your mind to escape day-to-day life and to recharge your batteries. The focus becomes the next cast, fly placement, and that 22 inch Brown Trout sipping Blue-Winged Olive mayflies just upstream.
When you come to Blue Ridge to fly fish, our brick and mortar store is located in downtown Blue Ridge at 490 East Main Street, next door to Oyster Fine Bamboo Fly rods. Come by and check out the shop whether you’re looking for the latest local knowledge, gear, or if you just have to tell us a fish story. If you want to learn to fly fish or improve your existing skills with a fly rod, we offer both Fly Tying and Fly Fishing classes and schools in store as well as on the water. We also operate our guide service out of the shop - our guide staff has years of experience and they’re passionate about the sport of fly fishing. All of our guides make an effort to be the best instructors possible in order to help you hone your skills, whether you’re a newcomer to the sport or a seasoned angler looking for world-class fishing. We offer wade and drift boat trips in the area, so whatever experience you’re looking for, we have you covered.
Since my wife and I opened Cohutta Fishing Company in 2009, we have put our customers first. We are a family-owned business and proud to be a part of the Blue Ridge community. Our staff and guides are top notch and are always willing to help with local knowledge, assist with fly selections or directions to various attractions in the area as well as the best places in town to dine or shop. The next time you’re visiting, stop by and meet our friendly staff, ask about our hosted travel, corporate groups, book a guided trip, or check out the various brands we carry: Orvis, Simms Fishing Products, Filson, Howler Brothers Freefly, Fishpond, Thomas & Thomas Fly Rods, Scott Fly Rods, Nautilus Reels, Hatch Reels, Fishe, and more.
Hope to see you soon and Tight Lines,
Andy Bowen - Owner
