American Sign Language I (ASL)​Beginning

November 7 through December 12, 2024:

Do you want to learn American Sign Language (ASL)? This 6-week course is for beginners or those who need a refresher. The goal of the course is to be able to finger spell, numbers, storytelling with classifiers, understand deaf culture and the language of ASL, while also learning to initiate conversation, learn to ask questions, and analyze the grammar, English vs. ASL.

Techniques students will learn are the five parameters of ASL, which includes classifiers, hand shapes, palm orientation, location and movement, facial expressions and non-manual markers and signals. A deaf speaker will also share their experiences and struggles between the deaf and hearing worlds.

Please note that there will be NO class on Thursday, November 28, Thanksgiving day.
The final class on Thursday, December 12, will be 2-hours, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
